Funny to be older than you two, and to have spent the entire decade you talk about with my head down, working, with children at home. The then-contemporary culture was, in effect, nonexistent for me. I had most of the type of experiences you mention long before.
I am copy editing my draft novel tonight. I’m about 60% done. These things take enormous amount of work. I have great respect for anyone who can even finish one.
I read half of “A Disaffection” by Kelman two years ago, but just could never be bothered to pick it back up. Did I pick the wrong book, or did I just read it the wrong time?

I would say How late it was, How late and The Busconducter Hines are well worth the effort
